INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The Joachim Giesel Archive offers several internships for students from the fields of art history, cultural studies, museology, photography or related study programmes.

The photographer Joachim Giesel was born in Wroclaw (now Wroctaw) in 1940. In addition to predominantly social documentary work, his work also includes portraits, press, fashion and advertising photography. As a curator, Giesel was involved in the founding of the spectrum Photogalerie, one of the first photo galleries in Europe, in 1972.

We are primarily looking for support in archiving, inventorying and documenting the work. In addition, we will provide you with extensive insights into project-related work with photographic estates in the areas of object handling, art historical research, social media and content production, management of funding, correspondence with research institutions, exhibition preparation and loans.

Depending on your qualifications and personal interests, your own specialisations can be discussed.

What you can expect:

  • Compatibility with your studies and absolute flexibility (there is one fixed working day per week and the possibility for home office!)
  • A small & young team (we are Bachelor and Master students)
  • A cosy & easily accessible workplace in the east of Leipzig
  • The possibility to continue working for the archive as a freelancer afterwards
